Back Bay burns – Romney finishes 3rd in Southern states – Tribe and Middleboro still at it – Ember the cat!

SOME SAY THE WORLD WILL END IN FIRE: The unstable swamperhood known as the Back Bay, built from nothing with landfill, rat carcasses and old Yankee savings bonds, burned to the ground last night. (Globe, Herald) That may have been an overstatement, but the there was a fire at an electrical transformer that’s left about 13,000 Back Bay residents and their live-in servants without power. (WBUR) And plenty of other things (Sun) burned down, too. (CCT) Is this how it works? The temperature goes up 15 degrees and all of a sudden things start spontaneously combusting? I’m glad half the state isn’t full of dry, dead, fallen trees from a year’s worth of storms. (Republican) Please meet our soon-to-be new state mascot: Ember the cat. (Enterprise)

FROM WHAT I’VE TASTED OF DESIRE: Rising temperature were also felt in Middleboro, where the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe is still tussling with the town over a broken deal to build a casino there. (Enterprise)

THOSE WHO FAVOR FIRE: Also on fire yesterday: ‘Murica’s Sweetheart Rick Santorum (N.J.) who tore through the Deep South to win big in the Alabama and Mississippi GOP presidential primaries. Former Gov. Mitt Romney didn’t do so hot last night, finishing third with about 30 percent of the vote in both states. (Globe)

TRIVIAL MATTERS: Any interest is another round of the MASSterList Trivia Challenge? I promise this one will be shorter, faster, easier, yet just as easy to cheat at. I’ll even try to get some of the folks in that couldn’t make it last time. Let me know if you’re interested on the emails or the tweetings.
