Axelrod to stump in Boston for Obama – “Boss Deval” gets behind Warren – Lantigua “paramour” testifies t o grand jury

TALK TO CORPORATE: The big leagues are in town today as Obama aide David Axelrod stops by the State House for a press conference that – I’m just guessing here – might have something to do with former Gov. Mitt Romney’s record.

PROMOTE SYNERGY: Another Axelrod candidate done good, Gov. Deval Patrick, got himself involved in the U.S. Senate race yesterday by officially backing Elizabeth Warren a few days before the Democratic convention in Springfield. The Herald talks to “critical Democrats” who say Patrick is acting like a “boss,” and not in a good way.

TURN INTO A JET: Lawrence Mayor Willie Lantigua’s “paramour” was called to testify before the grand jury investigating the mayor. Lorenza Ortega, a city employee, wouldn’t answer any questions about her (maybe former) relationship with Lantigua or whether he still lives with her.

Mitt clinches it – Keating and Sutter go at it – Paul supporters protest state GOP

MITT MONITOR: Mitt Romney clinched the GOP nomination with a win in the Texas primary yesterday, setting himself up as the undisputed heavyweight champeen of the Republican party. Romney also spent some time hanging out with everyone’s second favorite birther, Donald Trump. (Everyone’s favorite is Orly Taitz, obvs.)

CONGRESS: They’re off and running in the new 9th district. Freshman Congressman Bill Keating and Bristol DA Sam Sutter, who has secured a place on the primary ballot, went at each other a bit in the Cape Cod Times over debates and notetaking.

APPAULING: Ron Paul supporters, who you may remember won most of the GOP delegate spots for the RNC a little while ago, aren’t happy about the state party’s attempt to review their ballots. Marian Walsh Consulting Services - Experience that informs. Passion the performs.

Romney calls for ed reform, vows 6% unemployment if elected – New poll: Brown/Warren race neck and neck – Senate budget debate leads to drunk driving loophole closing

MITT MONITOR: Mitt Romney yesterday called education the "civil-rights issue of our era," and proposed a nation-wide overhaul and restructuring of the education system. The presumed GOP presidential candidate didn’t stop there though, as Romney also pledged to keep unemployment at or below six percent if he’s elected.

BUDGET: As part of the first day of their budget deliberations, the Senate passed an amendment to close a loophole in the state’s drunk driving law. The budget debate now enters day two, beginning at 10 a.m.

OFF TO THE RACES: And there’s a "dead heat" in the U.S. Senate race according to a new Suffolk University poll that places Sen. Scott Brown and challenger Elizabeth Warren firmly within the margin of error.

THE VEGAS RETREAT: There won’t be a Sands resort casino built in Massachusetts, the Globe reports. Boston native and Sands chief Sheldon Adelson is pulling out, saying that having three casinos and a slot parlor isn’t the kind of market he wants to build in.

TRAIL TRACKING: After the Herald Truth-Squadded the heck out of Elizabeth Warren’s campaign worker assigned to track Scott Brown’s every move, the Globe takes a look today at the impact the practice has on campaigns and candidates.

SENATOR NEXT DOOR: Speaking of those Truthers, half of the Squad caught up with New Hampshire senator Kelly Ayotte to talk everything from Mitt Romney’s VP shortlist to Joe Biden’s tendency to make a gaffe here and there.

Senate passes health cost reform, auto repair bill – Galvin: No bra magic trick video for you – Ice cream stand threatened? Not on Steve Grossman’s watch

ENGROSS OUT: The Senate passed its version of health care cost containment last night, but oh, that’s not all they had up their sleeves, as they also decided to get the Right to Repair bill over with while they were at it. That’s two big pieces of lawmaking out the way for Terry’s Troops, while Speaker DeLeo’s still standing outside Mark Zuckerberg’s window with a boombox playing Peter Gabriel songs – just kidding, the House passed a change to the regulations governing retail price stickers and scanners, kind of a BFD.

WE ALL SCREAM: So, you remember the ice cream stand that was shut down by the state in Great Brook Farm the other day and my comment that ice cream maniac Steve Grossman should do something about it, right? Well he did. From the Treasurer himself:

“I wanted to let you know that I spoke today to both Mark Duffy at the Great Brook Farm ice cream stand and Ed Lambert, and I’m hopeful that a workable solution can be found soon. When ice cream and small businesses are on the line, I’m on it!”

There you have it. So if the stand is reopened for business, serving “delectable sundaes and frappes” as Sun scribe Chris Camire would say, you can thank Steve Grossman. But if the stand stays shuttered, expect some kind of terrible attack ad about it in two years.

GALVIN ADHERES TO MAGICIANS’ CODE, DOES NOT REVEAL SECRET: In a complete shock to both Beacon Hill and the rest of the Commonwealth he’s served for decades, Secretary of State Bill Galvin turns out to be no fun at all and refuses to force the release of that assuredly hilarious video of the Abington town official doing the old “magic bra trick” during a meeting.

What the Legislature is doing: the CliffNotes – DeLeo pokes Zuckerberg – Ragey rage over Silver Line service- The most important dog in MApoli – What will Obama crib from Deval next?

SAUSAGES: So the Legislature did a lot yesterday. Here’s the short version: The House passed both the veteran-assisting Valor Act and a bill aimed at preventing foreclosures. The Senate Ways and Means committee released its version of the budget, which boosts spending on cities and towns and calls for a new State Police unit to investigate EBT abuse, which is different from the welfare abuse crackdown the House proposed. Now the full Senate has to pass its budget with whatever amendments it chooses to tack on, agree with the House on a compromise version and then ship that sucker off to the Governor for his signature. I’m not getting into vetoes and line items in the short version, I’ve already bored you enough.

DOTH PROTEST TOO MUCH: Remember yesterday’s Daily Boston Herald Ragey Rage story about the MBTA providing disgustingly convenient service to the Convention Center? Well the folks over at UHub don’t seem to be very accepting of the Herald’s crack bus-following investigation.

TOO CLOSE FOR MISSILES, I’M SWITCHING TO GUNS: Bob DeLeo wants Facebook to come back to Massachusetts in a bad way. You can support the Speaker’s attempt to woo back Mr. Zuckerberg by posting on DeLeo’s wall… wait, no you can’t, because it seems as though DeLeo doesn’t have any kind of official Facebook account aside from this pretty lame page. But look who does.

TOBY 2014: This is easily the most important political perspective offered in today’s local news media.

STICK TO DOT, BUDDY: From BoMag, ListMasster Emeritus Gin Dumcius goes all glossy on us and spends way too much time and effort analyzing what pieces of rhetoric President Obama will lift from Deval Patrick this election cycle.

Brown won’t give back JP Morgan cash – House releases jobs bill – Want to name a T station?

T TIME: Hey, you want to by a T station? How about just the naming rights? Because that might just be the next step for the cash-strapped MBTA. So how about Dunkin’ Donuts Park Street Station? Or State Street Financial State Street Station? Long John Silver’s Aquarium Station?

THE BIDNEZZ: The House released a long, long awaited jobs bill yesterday, which they say will spur the innovation economy and help business.

HOLE IN YOUR POCKET?: Democrats want Scott Brown to give back any money raised with the help of nasty old JP Morgan bankers. Chill out Democrats, it’s JP Morgan. Just give them a couple weeks and they’re lose it all anyway.
